Girls Leadership Academics Mentoring Inc. (GLAM) is a non-profit agency that provides innovative after-school and summer programming for high school young ladies living in underserved communities. Based in Baltimore City, GLAM’s goal is to make a notable difference in the lives of young ladies by providing opportunities they would not otherwise have. GLAM’s mission is to inspire and empower young ladies to reach their full potential. The approach is designed to be creative, using Fashion to encourage and promote self-worth, academic and career advancement. The organization is dedicated to preparing young women for holistic success; allowing them to excel within the global community. GLAM was founded on three principles: leadership, academics and mentoring. We believe that by equipping young ladies with leadership capabilities it will unlock the power of their voice, so they become comfortable in the spotlight, and achieve a dynamic presence in order to become strong and confident leaders. The leaders of GLAM recognize that many of today’s young ladies are “at risk” and need guidance. GLAM was founded to assist young girls as they navigate the unique pressures of early adulthood. We focus on the following four measurable objectives:
Attendance, Grades, College Acceptance, and Self – Esteem. We set high academic achievement goals for all of our girls and it is our one of many goals to have 100% of them graduate from high school and get accepted into higher education institutions. It is vitally important to provide diverse and enriching experiences that extend beyond the young ladies schools and neighborhoods. Our goal is to broaden their ideas about success. GLAM’s diverse and fashion based curriculum is designed to expose young ladies to various aspects of life. Cultural and educational field trips allow them to visit out of state colleges which are a key component in demonstrating pathways to success. The young ladies are provided opportunities to meet successful career women, guest speakers and mentors. By connecting young ladies to positive and caring role models, they will receive the encouragement and inspiration needed to create their own opportunities for life success. The young ladies are encouraged to become role models to their peers, while contributing to the betterment of their community.
